De Dolle Brouwers Oerbier

Despite the name (oerbier means “original,” or from the source), there’s something awfully familiar here. Perhaps it’s because it isn’t that far from a homebrew.

Ithaca Beer Co. Cold Front

If you’re going to create a hybrid beer, you’d better know what you’re doing. In the case of Cold Front, I don’t think Ithaca had a clue.

The experiment was going so well.
I’ve been getting into this whole yeast culturing thing. It seemed to work with my first attempt on the Winter Saison, and so emboldened, I tried to grow some from a bottle conditioned beer. Specifically, Dieu du Ciel’s Derniere Volonte.
It started off well. I used a couple of resources as guides — 1. an article in Brew Your Own magazine, 2. this piece from Vermont Homebrew Guru, and, of course, 3. Papazian.
